I already own a domain name, and I am looking for a good place to host the actual website without paying anything for it.
Also I’m looking for people to recommend websites based on personal experience, not just googleing “free web hosting”

But once you outgrow a free-hosting account, it might be a good idea to start looking for shared hosts.

Domain registration is cheap and it also gives you free web space and all. And overall, this is less than $20 a year alone! If you need more space, they can give it at lower rates, beating every other host out there.
If your current internet provider is Earthlink, AOL, SBC Global and others which provide a homepage; you can easily FTP your own webpage designs as a new homepage. And using a redirection service such as mydomain. com or the forwarding of a parked domain name at godaddy. com, you can easily “mask” the homepage URL with a proper domain name. So in a sense, you have a working ecommerce website disguised as a homepage while still paying your normal monthly Internet provider’s access and hosting fee of the homepage.

Freehostia is always a good choice. They are free (unless you want even more options), and there’s tons of different things that you can choose from : forums, guest books, photo galleries, all for free.
